Body Moves!

The body Moves!  Such a vast and intricate system of systems within ourselves; The sweet dance of the kidneys, the magical engineering of our vascular highway, the tidal wave that is PERISTALSIS!  This machine is no machine at all!!  We are a constant balancing act of movement and fluids and delicious juicy goodness!!  Heavy sigh!  And to my point, we have to move our bodies!  And to maintain the integrity of this glorious complexity that is the Human, we have to find diverse ways to move ourselves through space and with gravity!

As we hang upside down, for instance, our liver can lift and allow new blood and oxygen to flow through that space and a tiny fascial pull in the intestines might release.  Or if we walk backwards up a hill, our right and left brain then sends a new signal to the quads and glutes which expands the proprioceptors in those muscles telling them of the wide variety of their capabilities!  Truly, there is such a wide variety in our human body!  When we strengthen our whole self then we just become so much more powerful in what we do!

Instead of running with knee pain, hip pain, mental exhaustion, run with your whole self.  Then you can access your core and relax your neck.  You can drop into your systems;  feel the neural connections, recognize blood flow restrictions and really listen and hear what your body is saying.  Because the diverse movement expands your mobility, strength and brain power, you can really begin to listen to your body.

Life and its’ injuries and stress and trauma and drama is processed and stored in our bodies.  We are amazing human beings, our bodies know that our minds cannot process life’s struggles past a certain point, we then store this kind of information in our bones and soft tissues.  It sits and waits to come out so that we can properly let it go.  Allow yourself to let these stressors go.  Hold a stretch a little longer or add some jumps to your run or roll around with your kids or animals in the mud!  These are the ways we release our hidden stressors so that the treasure of our true whole self can come free!  Then gravity is our friend and the planet is peaceful!

Weather or Not?

My clients are starting to express their excitement for the spring weather so that they can get outside and back into; walking, running, biking, or whatever outside movement it may be.  I worry about this thought process for a couple of reasons.

First and SO important, is the need for us to be adaptable for the human experience!  I feel that getting out and sticking with the movement that your body needs and loves through all the seasons and weather shifts is what keeps us connected to Nature (I will refer to Nature as “Her” or “She” throughout this paragraph…this life.)  As She moves and grooves and shifts and changes, we can move and shift right along with Her.  She is a force that translates within ourselves!  We cannot hide from Nature, we need to dance with Her.  It keeps us grounded and connected which is so important in this life as we; raise our children, work our jobs, connect with others in any way.  Its our hearts and minds!  If we can be adaptable to the weather, then we can adapt within our human experience thus becoming truer to ourselves and the people around us.  Then, of course, saving the world!

Secondly, Kansas weather is so unpredictable!  There are so many beautiful days in the winter time for instance, so quiet and peaceful.   Still and calm.  This is an opportunity to take it slow and thoughtful as you move outside.  And of course those exciting 50+ degree days where you shoot out of the house and your mile time drops a minute or two because your muscles are ready and warm.  And then the opposite; blazing Kansas heat!  This can be an opportunity to get outside at dawn or dusk and catch light as it hits the day or chase it away in the evening.  And how great to sweat!  What a special time of year when we can detoxify as that humidity hits us in the face.  Cleanse and refresh!  The ‘perfect’ outside play weather never really exists if that is what you are waiting for.  We have to be adaptable with the Seasons.  And GEAR!  Gear can get us through ALL the weather!

Always check the weather, the night before, set out the appropriate gear before bed and drag yourself outside.  The fulfillment will come!  Short and sweet or long and meditative, go!!
